Artist Village

Through exhibits and artist studios, the Artist Village located at the Deering Estate at Cutler tells America's story through the art, history, and science of traditional American crafts. Craft has always been an important part of American life. Every community in eighteenth and nineteenth century America depended on its craftspeople-blacksmiths, potters, weavers, among others to supply essential tools, goods, and services necessary to daily life. These individual craftspeople honored the time tested parameters of their craft, often established over dozens, hundreds, even thousands of years. It is the purpose of the Artist Village to expound on the stories of these professionals and artists and the creative yet functional ways they have contributed to society.
