Estate Docents

Do you love art, architecture, history or nature? Do you enjoy sharing your knowledge with other people? Then, you may be qualified to become a volunteer docent at the Deering Estate at Cutler.

Estate Docents greet visitors and conduct guided tours in one of the most beautiful settings in Miami-Dade County. If you are at least 21 years old, have a clear speaking voice, and enjoy working with the public, then consider joining our esteemed volunteer staff.

Whether you are available to serve on weekdays, weekends, evenings or holidays, we have programs to accommodate your schedule. Docents must be available to volunteer for at least one tour per month: Each tour explores specific interpretive themes, including South Florida’s Native American settlements, the Perrine Grant, the Town of Cutler, the life and interests of Charles Deering, and the Estate’s modern restoration and stewardship efforts. Docents may also serve as hosts and greeters during concerts and special events throughout the year.

After a site orientation, docents shadow Estate staff on guided tours and study selected readings to gain knowledge of the interpretive themes and to acquire group management skills. They receive complimentary admission to Estate-sponsored events during their service period and are recognized at the annual Miami-Dade County Park and Recreation Volunteer Day and Award Ceremony.

Applicants are required to comply with Miami-Dade County’s policies which include submitting to a criminal background check and fingerprinting by the Park Department.  Please bring your completed APPLICATION to the Main Gate Ticket Booth. The booth is open daily from 10:00am to 4:00pm.
