KIM YANTIS
Kim Yantis, an MFA from Florida
International University,
began her career in Philadelphia,
Pennsylvania where she received a
BFA from Moore College of Art and Design in Painting and Printmaking. Her work
draws inspiration from hypertext theory and incorporates non-linear narrative
to respond to locality, history, and the physical body. This search for
information, present in her preliminary inquiries and hands on practice, comes
to fruition through her mixed media works, a combination of digital and hand
drawn imagery, cloth collage and stitching, and video projection in various
formats. Demonstrating her strong interest in site specific projects, she
was recently awarded a one year Artist
in Residency position at the Deering Estate at Cutler in Miami to produce her library specific textile Piece
“The Adventurer”, Recently, she was invited to the DCG Open at The David
Castillo Gallery and was shown in the So-Bay Arts Festival. Her work was acquired by the Frost Museum of
Art and The Girls Club of Fort
Lauderdale, Florida Art Collection. As a community
volunteer and initiator of a homeschool art education program, she was invited
to participate in the Kennedy Center Capacity Building Workshop to enhance and
enliven community programming in the arts.
